Breaking the Basic Rules of Relationships

Yes, this is my version of relationship maintenance 101. As much as I wanted to avoid this topic on my blog, I can’t help sharing what Jay and I have and how we managed to keep a steady relationship running for five years now. Unlike other how-to’s and love tips, this one is about the basic relationship rules that people should BREAK or avoid. Although these are applicable on a case-by-case basis, it will not be that risky to try some of these. ; )

Extending Courtship Phase

Folks would always say that courtship phase should be done slowly and carefully. Old-fashioned moms and strict dads would recommend at least a year and more conservative grandparents would demand for a longer time. Believe it or not, Jay wooed me for only 12 days. :-P

That is because I do not believe in extending courtship stages to know if someone is truly worth-it. If you like someone, say yes! No matter how long courtship stage may be, two people can never really know each other that well. Instead, they should start right away in establishing their romantic relationship and simply treat their years together as the never-ending extension of their courtship phase.

Regulating Public Display of Affection

Most love gurus would say that couples should observe PDA regulation to make each other comfortable in crowded places and to avoid catching people's attention. I agree. It is a matter of respect not to smooch in front of many people especially today that everyone belongs in a judgmental  society. Nevertheless, couples should still make it a point to hold hands, give farewell kisses, and stay close to each other as much as possible. That is to show everyone that they are exclusively for each other and that they are proud to be together.

Spending Time Exclusively with Each Other

It is a must to have enough time to be exclusively together. However, lovers should not close their doors and be in their own little world all the time. It would be better to bond with close friends and family members every now and then to give space to each other while still being together.

Talking about the Future

A lot of men would say that the future should never be discussed because the mere idea of getting married scares them. As a matter of fact, most relationship conflicts begin with this. Romantic ladies who love to dream about tomorrow's happy endings get disappointed when their partners cannot return the same level of enthusiasm or interest on the topic. Luckily, there are still some men who are sensitive to this female sentiment. They eagerly share their ideas and outlooks about getting married and building a family, and they give their partners a sense of security that they will be living a life together in  the near future.

Suffocating Each Other

Finally, two people who are really in love should suffocate each other. Hahaha. I did not include this to give justification to my own mentality about relationships, but because I've seen how this actually worked. It is a must to give men some time to play their online games, do their sports, and drink with their friends. Girls, on the other hand, should be allowed to spend hours in chitchatting with their girlfriends, in shopping, in getting their nails done, and more. But, both of them should find a way to suffocate each other every now and then. That can make each other feel how badly they are wanted or needed, and that can also send the message that: "you are mine and I dun wanna share you with anyone ever."

Forgive me for all these unsolicited pieces of advice. Hope it helps! :P

Turn Problems into Fuels of Productivity

I must admit that this is one of the most problematic days of my life. Challenges and frustrations are just piling up and I honestly do not know how to handle them all anymore. But good employees gotta work and professionalism is expected to be above everything else. For that, I give you this oh-so-awesome-no-more-pending-article indicator on my tracker. With the help of God, half a gallon of coffee, and a few inspirational texts from my mom and Jay, I managed to survive this day. I know the rainbow’s no longer that far from where I stand today, and until I reach that point, I’ll continue turning problems into fuels of productivity. :)
